ATRIUM PSYCHOTHERAPY

PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY IN NYC

THERAPY BEYOND THE SURFACE

If you're here, something has your attention. Maybe it's a pattern you keep repeating. Maybe it's the gap between how your life looks and how it feels. Maybe you're just curious about why you are the way you are.

We're curious too.

Our work is psychodynamic, which means we're interested not only in what you say and do, but what you're not saying and not doing. These elusive dimensions of your personality can often have a huge influence on your life, but often you're not even aware of their presence. They "speak" in the form of anxieties, preoccupations, unhealthy relationships, and thought-processes that stop you from living in a more fluid way.

Defenses exist for good reasons—they're protective and familiar. Often you're not even aware they're there. The work is noticing them, understanding where they came from, and seeing how they're shaping your life. But therapy isn't only about what's not working—it's also about unearthing what's already there. The gifts and capacities that have been buried or ignored. The parts of yourself you haven't had permission to develop.

Psychodynamic therapy can be a transformative process, one that guides you toward unearthing the version of yourself you aspire to be.

BACKGROUND OF WHY CHOOSE USE_edited_edited.jpg

HOW WE WORK

Atrium offers individual and couples therapy, grounded in a shared clinical approach that draws from relational, attachment, and depth-oriented traditions. Our work is:

Active and Collaborative

We’re not neutral observers. We engage, wonder, and think with you in real time. Change happens through dialogue and relationship — not technique alone.

Not Manualized

We don’t follow treatment manuals or step-by-step protocols. Each therapy finds its own rhythm — shaped by the person, the relationship, and what the work begins to reveal.

Attachment Oriented

Early relationships shape how we regulate emotion, seek closeness, and manage distance. Their impact lives both in the psyche and the nervous system. Therapy helps bring these patterns into awareness so that connection feels safer and more possible.

Relationally Grounded

We view therapy as a living relationship rather than a set of interventions. The emotional patterns that surface between therapist and client often echo those formed earlier in life. Exploring them in real time allows for new experiences of trust, attunement, and connection.

Informed by Unconscious Process

We listen beneath the surface — to what repeats, what resists, what gets forgotten. Dreams, fantasies, slips, and symptoms are expressions of meaning in disguise. Attending to them reveals the logic of what once felt irrational.

COMMON ISSUES WE WORK WITH

We tend to work with artists, professionals, fellow therapists, and people drawn to introspection. Many of our clients have spent years thinking about their patterns—yet something still feels stuck.

DEPTH ORIENTED SPECIALTIES

Our depth approaches open a path into the unconscious and the wisdom of the body, inviting a deeper connection to the inner world, the integration of extraordinary experiences, and the working through of things that don’t yet make sense.

We'll move slowly through your dreams , letting their images and symbols unfold. The work includes exploring archetypal themes in your life, engaging with the shadow, and persona. Through active imagination, we enter dialogue with inner figures and listen for what the self yearns for. Read more...

Increased frequency allows therapy to move beyond immediate problems and into the deeper structures that shape how you relate, feel, and make sense of the world. Without the pressure to be efficient, seemingly ordinary moments become pathways into unconscious meaning.

We’ll attend to sensations in the body as well as to spiritual or transpersonal experiences. We’ll hold space to tell the stories of extraordinary or ineffable moments. Sessions create room to integrate what feels beyond words, using the body itself as a creative source of knowing and meaning. Read more...

Work that centers on how the nervous system reacts — activation, shutdown, or drifting. The aim is to help the body stay connected to what’s happening inside. Each clinician works differently, but we all track how you come toward and recede, helping your system feel safer and more flexible over time. Read more...
